I was following an aircraft when it suddenly disappeared, why?

If an aircraft suddenly disappears from Flightradar24, it’s usually because our system is temporarily unable to receive its signal. Common reasons include:

• Coverage gaps: Aircraft may pass through areas with limited or no receiver coverage, such as oceans, remote regions, or mountainous terrain. Tracking usually resumes once the aircraft enters a covered area.
• Transponder and data source limitations: Tracking can vary depending on the type of transponder (e.g., ADS-B or Mode S) and the data source. Some transponders perform better at higher altitudes or in well-covered areas.
• Technical issues or GPS jamming: Signal loss can also occur due to technical problems, atmospheric conditions, or GPS jamming. You can view current GPS jamming activity and affected areas on our dedicated page.

Tracking typically resumes automatically once the aircraft is within coverage again.
