If you are sharing data either by using your own Raspberry Pi built receiver or FR24 provided, you are entitled to a complimentary Contributor plan for as long as you continue to share data.
If you are about to start sharing data and currently own a paid Flightradar24 subscription, please make sure to cancel it - otherwise you will get charged continuously, and the free Contributor plan will not get activated automatically.
The paid subscription does not get cancelled automatically when you start sharing data - the cancellation has to be done manually on the platform you have purchased the subscription on.

As soon as you start feeding data, an already created Free account will get upgraded to the Contributor plan automatically. You may need to log out and in again.
